About GateToken (GT)

GateToken (GT) is the native cryptocurrency of the GateChain ecosystem, which includes the Gate.io cryptocurrency exchange. GateChain is a decentralized network developed by the Hong Kong-based Gatecoin company, which was founded as a Bitcoin- and Ethereum-based cryptocurrency exchange by a group of investment bankers in 2013.

After primarily focusing on Bitcoin trading, Gatecoin rebranded its platform to Gate.io in 2017. Since then, the exchange has enabled various trading alternatives, said to be enhanced by GT, which was first launched in March 2020.

GT can be staked in GateChain’s proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism. GT is also used to pay transaction fees on the blockchain network and can be used as a tradeable cryptocurrency for global peer-to-peer payments. GT is currently not available for trade on Binance, although GT price is updated and available in real time on the cryptocurrency platform.

What is GT Used For?

GT can be staked by holders who wish to take part in GateChain’s PoS consensus mechanism. It can also be used to pay transaction fees in the interconnected GateChain blockchain environment, as well as to facilitate global, borderless payments at a reportedly fractional cost.
