Tether has become the largest holder of gold reserves outside of sovereign nations and banks, currently holding over 140 tons of gold, worth approximately $24.00B, with reserves exceeding the official reserves of many countries such as Australia and Saudi Arabia. In addition to serving as a 1:1 reserve for its issued gold token Tether Gold ($XAUT), Tether also holds a significant amount of gold as surplus reserves on its own balance sheet (providing additional over-collateralization buffer for its stablecoin $USDT).

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino has stated that most of its gold is stored in highly secure vaults in Switzerland.

Gold prices remain above $5,000. This support mainly comes from the safe-haven demand triggered by continued geopolitical risks, as well as the widespread sell-off of currencies and sovereign bonds by investors.
Investors are currently closely watching the US consumer confidence data to be released later on Tuesday evening, as well as Federal Reserve Chairman Powell's speech on Wednesday. The proposed crypto market structure bill, if passed, clarifies the regulatory authority of federal regulators over digital assets, making cryptocurrencies easier to manage, track, and trade, potentially attracting more investors and increasing token value.
