#Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has weighed in on the debate around Zcash's committee-based governance model, warning that a token voting system could erode the #privacy coin's core features. The discussion centers on whether ZEC should maintain its current committee structure or shift to direct tokenholder voting mechanisms.

Zcash co-founder Zooko Wilcox opened the discussions by urging support for Artkor, a longtime community member and sitting member of the Zcash Community Grants Committee seeking re-election. Zcash's off-chain governance operates through a curated advisory panel called ZCAP, which votes on major questions and elects the committee that allocates grants.

Wilcox describes the group as thoughtful and independent people who disagree with each other but remain committed to the same mission. By Saturday, AngelList co-founder Naval Ravikant had entered the thread and challenged the model as obsolete, stating it should be deprecated.

Ravikant argued that trusted third parties are a security flaw regardless of whether they are thoughtful and independent. He stated all governance for decentralized protocols should be on-chain and private, directly contradicting the current #Zcash structure.

Buterin then weighed in and urged the community not to adopt a coin-voting model. He stated he hopes ZEC “resists the dark hand of token voting,” arguing that the cryptocurrency's privacy focus could erode over time if left to the median token voter.

#Buterin characterized token voting as “bad in all kinds of ways” and “worse than Zcash's status quo,” citing his 2021 blog post on governance. He wrote that coin voting appears credibly neutral because anyone can acquire governance #tokens on exchanges, but in practice, it may only appear secure because of imperfections in its neutrality.

Ether futures trading activity has overtaken #Bitcoin on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, marking a notable shift in digital asset derivatives markets. The development has fueled speculation that ETH may be entering a long-anticipated super-cycle, defined as a sustained multi-year period of accelerated growth driven by rising adoption.

Priyanka Jain, CME's director of equity and crypto products, stated in a recent exchange video that ETH options currently exhibit higher #volatility than BTC$BTC options. The increased volatility has attracted traders rather than deterring participation, directly accelerating growth in #Ether futures activity on the platform.

Jain questioned whether this represents Ether's long-awaited super-cycle or merely a catch-up trade driven by short-term volatility. The rotation proved especially pronounced in July, when the so-called flippening saw open interest in ETH$ETH futures overtake BTC$BTC futures on the exchange for the first time.

Bitcoin and Micro Bitcoin futures still account for the largest share of activity when measured by dollar value. However, Jain noted the broader trend shows market participation in #Ethereum -linked products is expanding rapidly across CME's trading platforms.

Ether, Bitcoin, and the broader #cryptocurrency market came under renewed selling pressure on Monday, extending a volatile period that capped a difficult month for the sector. The move appeared to follow a coordinated wave of de-risking at the end of November.

Market analyst CTO Larsson said traders cut exposure immediately after the monthly close. He noted people reduced exposure at exactly midnight UTC because the monthly candle closed poorly, triggering widespread position adjustments.

Meanwhile, Ether treasury companies that made holding ETH on their balance sheets a core business strategy have seen the value of their holdings decline sharply.
