Traces of Denmark’s 250-year imperial reign are still visible on St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John and the smattering of tiny islets that today make up the U.S. Virgin Islands.
As President Donald Trump negotiates a "framework of a future deal" with Denmark for access to Greenland, some residents of the tropical territory say they feel like they're rewatching their own past.
More than a century ago, President Woodrow Wilson bought the islands, then called the Danish West Indies, from Denmark for $25 million after threatening to take them by force.
The roughly 26,000 inhabitants scattered across St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas in 1917 were not given a say in the acquisition, though Denmark did hold a referendum for its mainland residents. After the transaction, it took more than a decade for Virgin Islanders to gain United States citizenship.
Iran … The Police Counter-Terrorism Unit Continues Arresting Rioters and Mossad Agents
After identifying the main leaders and members of the recent disturbances, as well as the elements linked to Mossad and terrorist groups, the officers of the Iranian Police Counter-Terrorism Unit (NOBU), affiliated with the Special Forces, are arresting dozens of treacherous agents who sold themselves to the enemy.
Preliminary information indicates that funds and plans for the disturbances were sent to these leaders from abroad via Mossad. The unit commander confirms that, according to the directives of the General Commander of the Law Enforcement Forces (Police), the unit’s officers will continue arresting treacherous and security-destabilizing elements relentlessly and seriously until the last individual.
Hungary on the EU decision to ban Russian gas: “A deception” carried out without consensus
Hungarian Foreign Minister said: “This measure was adopted through a large-scale legal fraud, as its substance constitutes a sanction that would have required unanimity.”
He added: “However, in order to avoid opposition from sovereign national governments, this decision was disguised as a trade measure, for which a qualified majority was sufficient.”
The Council of the European Union announced on Monday its final approval of a ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas starting from January 1, 2027, and Russian gas transported via pipelines starting from September 30, 2027, according to a statement published on the Council’s website.
According to calculations by Sputnik, based on Eurostat data, the European Union will lose 17% of its imports after the imposition of a full ban on natural gas imports from Russia.
It advises its citizens not to travel to the town of Jurf al-Sakhar in Babil Governorate, and within 5 kilometers of Iraq’s border with Iran (in Wasit, Maysan, and Basra governorates), as well as to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The British Foreign Office continues to recommend traveling to parts of Iraq only for essential purposes.
“True Promise Brigades” threaten to target energy interests and US embassy facilities in the region.
“True Promise Brigades – Sons of the Arabian Peninsula” issued Military Statement No. (8) today, holding the US administration and its actors in the region fully responsible for security instability and for depriving peoples of the right to live safely, as a result of policies it described as terrorist and malicious.
In its statement, the group vowed to make US interests in the region legitimate targets for its missiles and drones, directly threatening to halt the flow of oil through the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf and to target all US-affiliated energy resources in the Arabian Peninsula.
It said that “US embassy compounds are operations rooms targeting Muslim peoples,” affirming its determination to make them targets of its fire and to besiege them by imposing a ban on international airlines it described as hostile to Islam, especially those operating in the Arabian Peninsula.
The statement concluded with threats and an assertion that this punishment is imminent, in response to what it described as the tyrannical US approach and the confiscation of the will of free people.
Iran has begun strict military surveillance of the American aircraft carrier in the region and has now moved to aggressive monitoring using armed drones carrying warheads. If the aircraft carrier makes a mistake and enters Iranian territorial waters, it will become a target.
Any scenario built on the element of surprise or on controlling the scope of engagement will slip out of the control of its designers from its earliest stages.
The maritime environment surrounding Iran is a familiar local environment and lies entirely under the oversight of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic.
The concentration and buildup of forces and equipment arriving from outside the region in such an environment will not serve as a deterrent; rather, it will increase their vulnerability and turn them into reachable targets.
Cuban President warns the United States that any attack on his country will have consequences.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel warned the United States of the consequences of any potential American aggression against his country.
Díaz-Canel explained, in statements carried by the television channel Caribe, that “the best way to prevent aggression is to force imperialism to pay the price that may result if it attacks our country, and this is directly linked to the level of our readiness for such military actions.”
On Saturday, the Cuban president visited a tank unit as part of the events held for National Defense Day, where he observed tactical exercises that included the use of various types of weapons, in addition to coordinating unit operations under virtual combat conditions against a hypothetical enemy.
Regarding Iran, we deal with Iran solely from the perspective that Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China are cooperating with each other. If we are talking about Iran’s internal situation at the present moment, this is not an issue NATO would intervene in.
Tensions between Iran and the United States are rapidly escalating, as Tehran has publicly rejected US conditions for negotiations and hinted at the possibility of a wide-ranging retaliatory response that could strike several Gulf countries.
Both sides refuse to make concessions in the negotiations, with Washington demanding the removal of Iran’s enriched uranium, the halt of its missile program and support for allies, and a commitment not to enrich uranium in the future.
Gulf states have privately expressed concern over a larger war in the region, which could last longer and be more destructive than the 12-day war in June.
🇨🇳 China (ta’liq) on the US deploying aircraft carriers in the Middle East:
The Yemenis forced the American aircraft carrier to flee like a mad one from the Red Sea, leaving behind a number of its planes to sink due to rapid maneuvering under missile attacks…
What about Iran with its bigger missiles and larger military capabilities? It seems that this time it will really sink.
