President Donald Trump signed a ~$1.2 trillion government funding bill on February 3, 2026, which officially ends the partial federal government shutdown that began earlier last weekend. The House narrowly approved the spending package before it reached his desk.
The bill funds most federal agencies through the current fiscal year and restores operations that were paused during the shutdown.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was temporarily funded only through Feb. 13, giving lawmakers more time to finalize longer-term DHS funding.
Difficult negotiations are ahead, particularly for the agency that enforces the nation’s immigration laws - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
