Walrus (WAL) is basically the incentive layer behind Walrus on Sui: a decentralized “blob storage” network that spreads large files across many nodes using erasure coding so data stays available even if parts of the network go offline. The privacy/censorship resistance angle is the real hook storage that’s harder to pressure, harder to disappear, and cheaper than pushing everything on chain. WAL matters because it’s what keeps providers honest (rewards + penalties), coordinates governance, and aligns long-term uptime with economics. If Walrus gets real adoption from apps and enterprises needing durable decentralized storage, WAL becomes less “just a token” and more “the toll road for data availability.”
