The Terra Classic ($LUNC ) project recently completed several major upgrades, including the v3.5.0 upgrade in August 2025, which reactivated the Market Module to help stabilize LUNC and $USTC dynamics.

Another significant upgrade was the SDK50 integration, completed by Orbit Labs, which ensures full compatibility with the broader Cosmos ($ATOM ) ecosystem, improving interoperability and efficiency. A July 2025 update also split the burn tax, redirecting 50% of transaction taxes to token burns.

v3.5.0 upgrade and its impact

Reactivated Market Module upgrade restored the Market Module, which is designed to manage the supply-demand dynamics between LUNC and USTC, potentially restoring some core functionality for algorithmic stability.

Network improvements included CometBFT consensus improvements and WasmVM optimizations, which are expected to reduce transaction latency. Also, the Governance support proposal was approved by validators with 92% consensus, indicating strong community alignment.

Cosmos ecosystem compatibility upgrade ensures full compatibility with the Cosmos ecosystem, enabling smoother cross-chain interactions and greater network efficiency. Reopening the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol will allow LUNC & USTC to move and be traded across the broader Cosmos ecosystem. By integrating with the broader Cosmos ecosystem, the upgrade is intended to foster more innovation on the Terra Classic platform.

Over 400B LUNC have burned since 2022, with average weekly burns around 1-2 B. Total Value Lock (TVL) remains at 800K in October 2025. This TVL remains chronically low and the community's attempt to vote in a new stablecoin (Proposal #12192) was rejected, confirming the governance challenges in pivoting to utility-building.

If the IBC revival successfully brings new cross-chain liquidity and allows developers from the wider Cosmos network to build on Terra Classic, it could finally solve the "weak utility" problem.
