🦠 Deadly Nipah on the doorstep of India: 100 in quarantine, one dead
🔴 A new outbreak of the Nipah virus has been detected in India. About 100 people are in quarantine, with five cases reported in West Bengal, three in the past week. Among the infected are healthcare workers, one patient is in a coma. The fatality rate of the virus is between 40–70%, and there is no vaccine. WHO warns that there is currently no threat of a global pandemic.
⚡️ The virus spreads in clusters, primarily in India and Bangladesh. Thailand has strengthened control at airports. The risk of importation to Russia is assessed as low, with no imported cases. Nipah is transmitted from animals to humans and from person to person, with symptoms including high fever, weakness, pain, and brain damage. #India
