Le Parisien published an article today confirming that the French platform Waltio (specializing in tracking crypto portfolios and calculating capital gains tax) was indeed the victim of an extortion attempt by the hacker group Shiny Hunters.
The hackers claim to have stolen the personal data of around 50,000 customers (mostly in France): email addresses + crypto account balances (amounts in BTC, ETH, etc.).
Access would have occurred as early as 2024, but the ransom demand was sent during the night from Wednesday to Thursday (January 22-23, 2026).
Waltio immediately filed a complaint with the police for extortion and attempted disruption of its automated systems.
