Amazon accidentally sent an internal email acknowledging upcoming changes to its organizational structure. The content of the email from a senior vice president of Amazon Web Services indicated that the company had notified "affected colleagues" and aimed to reassure remaining staff, which means it mistakenly sent an email after layoffs before the actual cutbacks occurred 🤦♂️
This raises the possibility that Amazon will soon announce a widespread layoff later this week, particularly in the cloud and retail sectors.
Previously, in October of last year, Amazon laid off 14K employees in CEO Andy Jassy's effort to reduce management layers and improve efficiency through AI, while the company is also restructuring its grocery retail sector by closing Fresh & Go stores to focus more on Whole Foods supermarkets and online delivery.
