The United States is following in the footsteps of the former Soviet Union. It has been proven that relying on ideology to build consensus is costly, risky, and expensive. When the United States can no longer afford to spend money and has to rely on allies to sustain itself, this consensus becomes fragile. Ultimately, it all comes down to the distribution of interests. If you, as the leader, cannot seize resources and support your subordinates, while also resorting to robbing them, then your so-called ideology will collapse.
