🔴 The former president and the former secretary of state: "Contempt of Congress" and Epstein scandals
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton agreed late Monday evening to testify in an investigation conducted by the House of Representatives (Congress) regarding the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, but the Republican congressman leading the inquiry said the agreement has not been finalized yet.
Representative James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, was set to charge Clinton and his wife with criminal contempt of Congress on Monday evening for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena when the couple's lawyers sent an email to Oversight Committee staff stating that the couple would accept Comer's demands and "will appear to testify at times agreed upon by both parties".
The lawyers requested Comer to refrain from proceeding with contempt of Congress proceedings. However, Comer stated that he would not drop the charges immediately, which could expose the couple to significant fines and even jail time if upheld by the House and successfully prosecuted by the Department of Justice.
