Binance founder – Changpeng Zhao – has once again affirmed his familiar viewpoint: holding crypto long-term is often more effective than most short-term trading strategies. His statement quickly spread across forums and social media, especially in the context of the market entering a new phase of high expectations.
CZ: Most Trading Strategies Cannot Beat 'Buy And Hold'
On platform X, CZ shared:
“I have seen many trading strategies over the years; very few of them can beat the simple strategy of ‘buy and hold’, which is also what I do. Not investment advice.”
His message is very clear: instead of continuously trading, holding core assets like Bitcoin (BTC) or BNB in the long term may yield better results.
This perspective is not new, but it comes at a time when Bitcoin is being widely anticipated to enter a new significant growth cycle – potentially even a 'supercycle'.
Community Discussion: Is Buy And Hold Always Right?
CZ's remarks received support from many investors. Some argued that:
“Buy and hold is not lazy at all. It is the only strategy that allows time to work for you. Most people trade to the point of burning out their accounts, while those who ‘do nothing’ actually build wealth.”
However, there are also counterarguments.
One X user argued that the buy-and-hold strategy is only effective when the market is rising. If bought at the peak of a cycle, investors may endure significant declines for many years. Some pointed out that many altcoins have dropped by up to 90% since recent political upheavals.
Another opinion emphasizes that this strategy is only suitable for strong assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or BNB – coins with solid foundations and large liquidity – and does not apply to most smaller altcoins.
This shows: 'Buy and hold' is not a magic formula, but also depends on choosing the right assets.
Can Bitcoin Break the 4-Year Cycle?
In an interview with CNBC, CZ continued to express long-term optimism about Bitcoin.
When asked about the price prediction for BTC this year, he stated:
In the short term (by days or weeks), it is very difficult to predict.
But if viewed through the lens of a 5–10 year timeframe, the trend is very clear: “We will go up.”
CZ also shared a consensus view with the bold forecast of Cathie Wood (ARK Invest), who once suggested that Bitcoin could reach anywhere from 300,000 USD to 1.5 million USD by 2030.
According to him, with the U.S. taking a more friendly stance toward crypto and many other countries potentially following suit, Bitcoin has a strong chance of breaking the traditional 4-year cycle.
Typically, Bitcoin rises sharply about a year after each halving. The next halving cycle is expected to occur in April 2028, and if history repeats itself, the peak of the cycle could occur at the end of 2029. However, CZ believes that the current policy context could drive a “supercycle” earlier.
Tokenizing National Assets: A New Direction?
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos 2026, CZ revealed that he had spoken with about a dozen countries regarding the tokenization of assets.
Although he did not specify the name of the country or the type of asset, he mentioned that these projects could help the government:
Raising funds by selling small portions of state assets
Expanding investment access for the public
Leveraging blockchain to enhance transparency in the distribution process
This model is similar to previous privatizations in the oil or telecommunications sector, but done in the form of tokens on the blockchain.
According to CZ, the trend of countries becoming more crypto-friendly is a positive signal not only for the digital asset industry but also for the U.S. economy.
After Prison: CZ and a New Journey
CZ also shared about the difficult period after he received a four-month prison sentence in 2023 because Binance did not fully implement the anti-money laundering measures required by U.S. regulators.
He admitted that he did not expect to face prison time, as many similar cases before had only received financial penalties. He described the experience in prison as “harsh.”
However, he stated that the pardon from the U.S. President has helped alleviate the psychological pressure he has faced for a long time.
Currently, CZ stated that he is still actively involved in:
Building Giggle Academy
Supporting YZi Labs
Advising the BNB Chain ecosystem (primarily as a mentor and minority shareholder)
Buy And Hold: A Simple Yet Not Easy Strategy
The main message from CZ can be summed up in one idea: time is the greatest ally of long-term investors.
However, the reality shows:
Long-term holding requires strong conviction and the ability to endure significant volatility.
Not every asset deserves to be “held.”
Managing risk and portfolio allocation still play a significant role.
While many people seek complex trading strategies to “beat the market,” CZ emphasizes a minimalist approach: choose good assets and be patient.
Will Bitcoin enter a new supercycle? Or will the 4-year cycle continue to repeat?
The answer is still ahead. But if viewed from CZ's perspective, in the long run, the overall trend remains upward – and the winners may be those who are patient enough to wait.
