US President Donald Trump posted on the social network Truth Social an image showing him together with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the moment of raising the American flag on the territory of Greenland. The picture also features a sign that reads 'Greenland - US territory since 2026,' which essentially symbolizes Washington's claims on the island.

Accompanying the publication, Trump once again confirmed that the United States does not intend to abandon the idea of annexing Greenland. According to him, the island is crucial not only for the national security of the USA but also for global stability as a whole. The American leader emphasized that, as he claims, there is 'no turning back' on this issue, and all parties allegedly recognize this.

The escalation of the situation around Greenland occurred against the backdrop of Trump's statements about the necessity of establishing American control over the autonomous territory that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The U.S. president insists that the island is vital for the defense of the United States, claiming that Russian and Chinese military vessels are allegedly operating near its shores. However, these claims have been refuted by diplomats and representatives from NATO countries present at relevant alliance meetings.

After Trump's resonant statements, a number of European Union countries, including Denmark, Germany, Sweden, and France, sent military contingents to the island as a demonstration of support and deterrence. In response to these steps, the American president announced the introduction of 10% trade tariffs against the mentioned states, which further intensified tensions between the USA and their European allies.

Later, Trump published another image that amplified the political resonance around the topic. In the second picture, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, leader of the German Christian Democrats Friedrich Merz, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are depicted listening attentively to Trump. The American leader is pointing to a map where Greenland is already marked as territory of the United States, which was perceived as a demonstrative political gesture and a signal to allies.
