🇺🇸🇬🇱WASHINGTON D.C. — The diplomatic crisis between the United States and Europe reached a new peak this Wednesday morning (7), after the White House issued an official statement asserting that the acquisition of Greenland is a "national security priority" and that the use of the Armed Forces to secure this objective "is always among the options" available to President Donald Trump.

The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, adopted a tone of extreme seriousness in her response, warning that the American aggression could dismantle the global security order.

In a recent statement to the Danish broadcaster TV2 and in direct response to comments from the White House, she said: "If the United States chooses to militarily attack another NATO country, then it's over. This includes our alliance within NATO and, therefore, the security that has been guaranteed since the end of World War II."

She reiterated her position that Greenland belongs to its own people and is not a geopolitical commodity, receiving unanimous support from other European leaders. Although most Greenlanders wish for full independence from Denmark in the long term (around 56% would vote "yes" for independence today), they see this as a path toward becoming a sovereign nation, not a change of "ownership" (from Denmark to the United States). The idea of being bought or annexed by the United States is viewed locally as a colonial step backward, with about 85% of the population rejecting joining the U.S., only 6% showing interest, and another 9% having no firm decision.
