The system monitors shard availability continuously and triggers automatic re-encoding when redundancy drops below safety thresholds. Walrus epochs coordinate this recovery through Sui smart contracts that track node commitments and availability proofs. Storage nodes stake tokens that incentivize consistent participation, making churn economically discouraged but technically manageable. This design means Walrus maintains data integrity even as network composition constantly shifts underneath.
